The Croatian Kornati archipelago is located in northern Dalmatia, in Sibenik - Knin County. With 89 islands, islets and reefs, National Park occupies the area of about 220 km2 and is the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.

The largest part of the park is accounted for by the main island, Kornat, after which the whole island group takes its name. Due to the danger involved in sailing through this maze of stone and sea, there are many old lighthouses in Kornati, such as Blitvenica and Sestrice, which today are destinations for would be Robinsons of the tourist population. The biggest fans of the Kornati are yachtsmen, who find in this area that which they seek most, a sun soaked warren of sea and islands set amid unspoiled nature.
Yachtsmen are able to find safe anchorage in the numerous protected natural coves, in Piskera Marina, the only one in the park, and in the ten marinas around the park.
Except in marinas, fish specialties of the local cuisine can be savored in any of the several inns which exist in the old houses of fishermen from surrounding islands.

The special feature of National Park Kornati is its numerous old ruins and hill forts, many dating from Illyrian times. It is not only the surface of land and sea which is of interest in this archipelago, but also its underwater world, which is a very popular destination for many divers.
