Visiting Cavtat

Dubrovnik airport is situated only 5 km from Cavtat. The town is also reachable by bus from Dubrovnik which is 18 km far.
You can visit Cavtat by ferry, through the Dubrovnik port, which is well connected with other Croatian ports.

Cavtat

Cavtat is town in the Dubrovnik - Neretva County and is Croatia’s most southern tourist destination. Cavtat is situated 15 km south of Dubrovnik, on the peninsula which surrounds the well protected and accessible bay.

The town was a Greek colony, and later under Roman rules very important settlement in the region. With the invasion of Croats to this area, Dubrovnik became main city and Cavtat was the second most important place. The connection of Cavtat and Dubrovnik goes from days of Dubrovnik Republic and sharing its fate thence forward.

Town of Cavtat offers so much to the visitors: beautiful Mediterranean scenery, crystal clear sea, the rich cultural and historical heritage, its location between the city of Dubrovnik and beautiful Konavle area on the other side; and by all of it represent Cavtat as one of the most attractive destinations on the Adriatic.

What to see in Cavtat

The Church of St. Nicholas
It is the Baroque church with a welcoming facade of solid, pale gray stone. In the room next to the Parish house there is the picture gallery with the valuable collection of paintings, sculptures and church liturgical pottery.

The Church of Our Lady of Snow
It is the single nave church, from the 15th century and has perfect position by facing the bay. Franciscan monastery in Gothic style was later added to the church. Interesting paintings can be seen in the church made buy famous local artists.

City promenades
It is the promenades around the two peninsulas with easy walk and with a number of benches to seat. Along the route you will come to number of small beaches and interesting spots to see.

Diving
The underwater world of Cavtat is very attractive for diving activities; there you can visit some antique places of discovery, with over 1800 amphorae’s originating from the 1st century.

Mausoleum of Racic Family
The mausoleum of ship owner’s family from Cavtat was built in 1921 on the ruins of old church from 15th century. It was built from the white stone in the form of cupola. The Cavtat cemetery has its unique beauty overlooking the sea.

The House of Vlaho Bukovac
In the house can be seen paintings and other interesting items from the time of the one of the most famous Croatian painters.

Baltazar Bogišic Collection
Baltazar was scientist, jurist and professor born in Cavtat. He was a well known 19 century European intellectual and member of many intellectual societies from that time.
Collection holds more than 35.000 different rare items which he left to the town.
