Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
The Cathedral is the greatest and most valuable object in Sibenik architectural heritage and it has characteristic and outstanding details; built completely in stone by several successive architects. The construction of the cathedral began in the Venetian Gothic style, and was completed in the Tuscany Renaissance style.

The building of the Cathedral was initiated in 1402, though plans on its construction had already begun in 1298, when Sibenik town became a municipality. The actual work to transform the older church began in 1431. Finally it was officially consecrated in 1555.

The Cathedral in Sibenik is a triple nave basilica with three apses and a cupola. The most amazing parts of the Cathedral are the roof and the dome, the northern facade and the interior of the cathedral. Several tombs of former bishops are in the cathedral.
