Buzet is situated in the heart of the northern part of Croatian Istria and it has population of approximately 6,000 inhabitants.
Buzet old town is situated on 150 m high hill above the fertile valley through which runs the river Mirna, the newest part of the town is developed at the foot of the hill.
The town is also called the City of Truffles, because it is located in the zone in which grows this precious mushroom.
Buzet was settlement since prehistoric times and was first mentioned in 804. After the Romans in 6th century the town fell under the rule of the Byzantine Empire, and during later centuries was an important fortress particularly during the feudal struggle. From 1420 Buzet was under the rule of the Venetians, who did restoration of the city walls and Buzet becomes seat of military governor of Istria.
From 1797 town came under the rule of Austria, at 1918 occupied by Italy, and 1945 was attach to Croatia.
Today the town of Buzet and surrounding area offers almost intact nature and an abundance of cultural and historical monuments, together with good food and local wines, which attracting more tourists every year.

What to see in Buzet
Buzet Old town
Situated on hill it has two city gates, Big and Small from 16th century. There is also four squares connected by three main streets where can be seen interesting medieval architecture.
Church of the Assumption of Mary
It is right in the heart of old town, the parish church is actually carved into rock, making it a memorable site. In the church is famous organ from 1787, and rare Gothic Monstrance from 1453 and many other liturgical items.
Church of Saint George,
Also situated in the old town, church where is on the portal entered year 1611. Inside is Baroque work by the local masters.
County Museum
Museum holds archaeological and historic section, and it has a rich ethnographic material.
